Patrick Zwaanswijk (born January 17, 1975) is a former professional football player from the Netherlands. He played as a central defender. Patrick started his football journey in the famous Ajax Youth Academy.
He retired from playing professional football in 2013. During his career, he played for several clubs. These included Ajax FC, FC Utrecht, Oita Trinita, NAC Breda, and Central Coast Mariners FC. After his professional career, he also played for local teams in Australia. He captained Southern & Ettalong United and played for Terrigal United.
Patrick is married to Leah Maree Zwaanswijk. He has two children from his first marriage. Their names are Dominique Louise Zwaanswijk and Angelo Zwaanswijk. Since 2015, he has lived in North Avoca, Australia.

Playing Career Highlights
Patrick Zwaanswijk played for 11 seasons in the top Dutch football league, the Eredivisie. He spent six years with FC Utrecht and five years with NAC Breda.
Starting in the Netherlands
His professional career began with FC Utrecht. He played his first Eredivisie game against Willem II. Utrecht lost that game 1–0. During his six years at Utrecht, the team achieved great things. They played in the UEFA Cup four times. They also reached the KNVB Cup finals three times. Utrecht won the KNVB Cup twice with Patrick.
Moving to Japan and Back
After his time at Utrecht, Patrick joined Oita Trinita in Japan. He played in the J1 League for 14 months. However, his family missed Europe. So, he decided to move back to the Netherlands. He joined NAC Breda and played in the Eredivisie until 2010. With NAC Breda, his team finished third in 2008. This allowed them to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He played 189 games for NAC Breda. These games included matches in the UEFA Cup, Eredivisie, and Amstel Cup.
Time in Australia
In 2010, Patrick Zwaanswijk moved to Australia. He joined the A-League club Central Coast Mariners. He scored his first goal for the Mariners on October 2, 2010. It was a late winning goal against North Queensland Fury.
In May 2012, Patrick signed a new contract with the Mariners. This extended his stay for the 2012–13 season. He scored the first goal in the 2013 A-League Grand Final on April 22, 2013. He headed in a corner kick against Western Sydney Wanderers. The Mariners won the game 2–0. After the match, Patrick mentioned he was thinking about retiring.
In May 2013, Zwaanswijk announced his retirement from playing football. His last game was for the club in the 2013 AFC Champions League. This was a Round of 16 match against Guangzhou Evergrande. He decided to stay with the Mariners. He became a coach for their youth team, the Central Coast Mariners Academy, in the National Youth League.

Early Coaching Roles
The Mariners ended Zwaanswijk's coaching contract after his youth team finished last.
In November 2018, Zwaanswijk became the head coach of Hills United. This team plays in the National Premier Leagues NSW 2.
In September 2020, Patrick was appointed head coach of Western Sydney Wanderers Youth. He coached them for the rest of the season in the National Premier Leagues NSW.
Current Coaching Role
In August 2022, Zwaanswijk was named the head coach of Manly United FC's men's first-grade team. He started this role for the 2023 season.
