Patterson Island is a small piece of land in the Arctic Ocean. It is one of many islands that make up the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. This island is located in Nunavut, which is a large territory in northern Canada.
Patterson Island is special because no one lives there. It is an uninhabited island, meaning it has no permanent residents.
What is Patterson Island?
Patterson Island is part of a group of islands called the Findlay Group. It is the most southerly island in this group. This means it is the island furthest to the south within the Findlay Group.
Where is it Located?
This island is found in the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean. It lies to the south-east of another island called Grosvenor Island. The Arctic Ocean is a very large and icy ocean that surrounds the North Pole.
Another Patterson Island?
It might be a bit confusing, but there is actually another island also named Patterson Island! This second island is located in Ungava Bay. Ungava Bay is a large bay in northern Quebec, Canada.
This other Patterson Island is part of the Hopewell Islands. It is located right across from a community called Inukjuak. A narrow stretch of water, known as the Algerine Channel, separates it from Harrison Island. Both Patterson Islands are similar in size. However, the one in Ungava Bay is much longer and thinner in shape.
