Patzau is a small, quiet place in the countryside of Wisconsin, in the United States. It's not a city or a town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of a larger area called Summit Town in Douglas County. Patzau is located in the northwestern part of Wisconsin, southwest of the city of Superior.

County Road BB is an important road that goes through the community. Wisconsin Highway 35 is also close by.

Patzau's Past

Patzau has an interesting history, especially how it got its name and its connection to railroads.

How Patzau Got Its Name

The community of Patzau was named after a place called Pacov. Pacov is a town in what is now the Czech Republic. A cattle dealer who lived in Patzau, Wisconsin, decided to name the new community after his hometown.

Patzau and the Railroad

Long ago, Patzau was a busy place because of the railroad. It was known as a "railroad community." This means that trains and train tracks were a big part of life and work there. In the early to mid-1900s, a company called Soo Line had a special area called a "yard" in Patzau. A railroad yard is where trains are parked, sorted, and prepared for their journeys. This shows how important Patzau was for transportation in the past.
