How the Show Started
The Paul Henry Show (Late Night)
The Paul Henry Show first aired on January 27, 2014. It was a late-night show, on from 10:35 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Paul Henry was the host, and Janika ter Ellen read the news.
On the very first episode, Paul Henry interviewed some important people. He spoke with Labour Party leader David Cunliffe and Prime Minister John Key. Paul Henry liked to have fun with his guests. He joked with David Cunliffe about a spelling mistake on Twitter. He also challenged John Key to name native New Zealand birds. Key could only name a few, like the tui, kiwi, and kakapo.
This late-night show ended on December 19, 2014. This was because Paul Henry was going to start a new morning show.
Paul Henry (Morning Show)
The new morning show, simply called Paul Henry, began on April 7, 2015. This show was special because it was New Zealand's first "cross-platform" show. This means it was broadcast live on TV (Three), on the radio (RadioLIVE), and also available on mobile phones and the internet. It replaced two older morning shows.
The morning show ran on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Paul Henry was the main host, joined by Ingrid Hipkiss, Verity Johnson, and Jim Kayes. They covered news from New Zealand and around the world. This included sports, weather, and other interesting topics. On the first morning episode, guests included Prime Minister John Key, musician Brooke Fraser, and Rocket Lab founder Glenn Martin.
Where Was the Show Filmed?
Both the late-night and morning versions of the show were filmed at TV3's main offices in Flower Street, Auckland. They used Studio 3, which was specially updated for the morning show. This studio was also used for another show called Ice TV in the past.
