Early Life and Education

Sir Paul Newall was born with the name Paul Henry Neuwald. His birth date was September 17, 1934, in London, England. His father, Leopold, had moved to England from Poland. Leopold became a successful manufacturer of gowns. The family changed their last name from "Neuwald" to "Newall" in 1940.

Paul attended Harrow School, a well-known school in England. After school, he joined the Royal Fusiliers for his National Service. This was a time when young men served in the military. Later, he went to Magdalene College, Cambridge, to study economics.

Career in Finance

Paul Newall started his career working for stockbrokers Cazenove & Co. Stockbrokers help people buy and sell shares in companies. He then worked at Durlacher, a firm that dealt with buying and selling stocks directly. There, he was a "blue button," which was a person who ran messages on the trading floor.

After this, he became an analyst, studying financial markets. In the late 1960s, he joined a Wall Street firm called Loeb Rhoades. He became a partner there and was known as a popular broker. He helped large companies and organizations with their investments. From 1971 to 1977, he was a member of the New York Stock Exchange. This is a major place where stocks are traded in the United States.

Becoming Lord Mayor

In 1993, Sir Paul Newall achieved a very important role. He became the Lord Mayor of London. The Lord Mayor is a leader of the City of London, which is the historic financial heart of London. Personal Life

Paul Newall married Penelope Ridsdale in 1969. They had two sons together. The famous author Barbara Cartland introduced Paul to Penelope. Sir Paul Newall passed away on July 28, 2015, after an illness.
