Paul Raymond's Musical Journey
Paul Raymond started his music career in January 1964. He first played jazz music. Later, he joined a band called Plastic Penny as their keyboardist and singer.
He then joined the British blues band Chicken Shack. He took the place of Christine McVie, who later became famous with Fleetwood Mac. After that, Raymond became the keyboardist and guitarist for Savoy Brown. He also played on an album called Second Chapter in 1975. This album was by Danny Kirwan, a former guitarist from Fleetwood Mac.
Joining UFO and Other Bands
In 1976, Paul Raymond joined the rock band UFO. He replaced their first keyboard player, Danny Peyronel. Paul Raymond also wrote songs for UFO. However, he was not given credit for these songs until many years later.
When Michael Schenker left UFO, Paul Raymond joined Schenker's new band, MSG, in 1981. In 1983, he also joined Waysted, a band started by UFO's bassist Pete Way.
Paul Raymond played with UFO for many years. He was part of the band from 1976 to 1980, then again from 1984 to 1986, from 1993 to 1998, and finally from 2003 until his death in 2019. He played alongside band members like Phil Mogg, Andy Parker, Michael Schenker, and Pete Way.
Playing Style and Family
Paul Raymond was left-handed. When he played the guitar, he used strings that were set up differently. This means the strings were in the opposite order compared to how most right-handed guitarists play.
He had a daughter named Erica Raymond.
Later Years and Legacy
Paul Raymond passed away on April 13, 2019, at the age of 73. He died from a heart attack. At the time, his band UFO had just finished the first part of their "Last Orders: 50th Anniversary" world tour. This tour was planned to be their final one.
After Paul Raymond's death, Neil Carter took his place for the rest of the tour. Neil Carter had also replaced Paul Raymond in UFO once before, from 1980 to 1983.
Paul Raymond left behind a great musical legacy. He is remembered for his important contributions to rock and blues-rock music.
