Paul Seward Trible Jr. (born December 29, 1946) is an American lawyer, politician, and leader in education. He was the president of Christopher Newport University from 1996 until he retired in 2022. As a member of the Republican Party, he represented Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives for three terms and in the U.S. Senate for one term.

Early Life and Education
Paul Trible went to Hampden–Sydney College and earned a degree in history in 1968. He was part of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity there. In 1971, he earned a law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law. Soon after, he was allowed to practice law in Virginia.
From 1971 to 1972, he worked for a federal judge. Then, from 1972 to 1974, he was an assistant U.S. Attorney in Virginia. This means he helped the government with legal cases. In 1977, he was honored by Omicron Delta Kappa at Hampden-Sydney College.
Political Career
In 1973, at 26 years old, Trible was elected as the Commonwealth's Attorney for Essex County, Virginia. He served in this role from 1974 to 1976. This job involves prosecuting crimes for the state.
In 1976, he was appointed to a commission that sets standards for law enforcement officers. That same year, at age 29, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He won reelection in 1978 and 1980.
In 1982, Trible, then 35, was chosen by the Republican Party to run for a U.S. Senate seat. He won the election and served in the U.S. Senate from 1983 to 1989. During his last year in the Senate, he also worked with the U.S. team at the United Nations.
After his time in the Senate, Trible decided not to run for reelection in 1988. In 1989, he was a teaching fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. After his political career, he returned to practicing law for a short time.

Leading Christopher Newport University
On January 1, 1996, Paul Trible became the fifth president of Christopher Newport University (CNU). The university was 35 years old and had recently become a full university. His arrival marked a time of many changes as the school grew.
In 2006, CNU's Board of Visitors announced that a new library and a special scholarship would be named after President Trible and his wife. This was to recognize their leadership and help to the university. Trible also served on a council for presidents of Virginia's public colleges and universities. He also chaired a council for college sports (NCAA Division III).
On September 24, 2021, Trible announced he would finish his time as CNU president at the end of the 2021–2022 school year. After his retirement, Adelia Thompson, who was CNU's chief of staff, became the interim president. Paul Trible then became the chancellor of CNU.
Personal Life
Paul Trible is married to Rosemary (Dunaway) Trible. They have two children. Their daughter, Mary Katherine, is married to Dr. Barrett W. R. Peters. Their son, Paul, is the CEO and co-founder of Ledbury. He is married to Brittany (Gordon) Trible.
