Paulo Cézar Lima (born June 16, 1949), known as Caju, is a famous Brazilian former football player. He played as an attacking midfielder, which is a player who helps both defend and score goals. Caju played for many clubs in Brazil, like Botafogo, and also for Marseille in France. He was also a key player for the Brazilian national team in the 1960s and 1970s. He played 57 games for his country and scored 10 goals.

Caju's Early Football Journey

Caju spent some of his early years in Honduras. His father, Marinho Rodrigues, was a football manager for a team called Club Deportivo Olimpia in the early 1960s. Later, in the mid-1960s, his father became the manager of a Colombian club, Junior de Barranquilla.

Starting as a Professional Player

It was at Junior de Barranquilla that Caju started his professional football career. He was only 16 years old! He played alongside other talented Brazilian players like Dida and Escurinho.

Joining Botafogo and Winning Trophies

In 1967, Caju moved to Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, a big club in Brazil. He was just 17 when he made his first appearance for them. At Botafogo, he helped his team win the Campeonato Carioca several times. This is the championship for football clubs in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He also won many other awards, becoming a very important player in Botafogo's history.

Playing for the Brazilian National Team

Caju is perhaps best known for being a part of the amazing Brazilian national team. He played in two World Cups: in 1970 and 1974. The 1970 team is considered one of the greatest football teams ever! For the national team, Caju played 57 games and scored 10 goals.

Recognized as a Top Player

Caju was recognized as one of the best players in Brazil. He was chosen for the Brazilian Bola de Ouro team of the season multiple times: in 1970, 1972, 1976, and 1977. This award highlights the top players in the Brazilian league each year.
