Paz Lenchantin (born December 12, 1973) is a talented musician from Argentina and America. She is famous for playing bass guitar and singing backup for the alternative rock band Pixies. She played with them and recorded three albums between 2013 and 2024. Before joining Pixies, Paz was part of other bands like Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Silver Jews, and Zwan.
In April 2024, a music publication called Consequence named Paz Lenchantin one of the greatest bass guitarists ever. They noted that she fit in well with bands like A Perfect Circle and Pixies. She was also a bright spot in the band Zwan. Besides playing bass, she is also a great singer and a skilled violinist.

Early Life
Paz Lenchantin has family roots from Armenia, France, and Argentina. When she was four years old, her family moved to Los Angeles, California. Her father, Mario Merdirossian, is a classical pianist. He taught piano at universities in Argentina, the United States, and Peru. Paz speaks both Spanish and English very well.
She started playing piano when she was five. At age eight, she began taking violin lessons. By age 12, she had taught herself to play the guitar. Her sister, Ana Lenchantin, is also a musician and they often work together. Paz also worked with her brother, Luciano Lenchantin, before he passed away in 2003. In the 1990s, Paz taught piano, created music for video games, and composed sounds for the Sci-Fi Channel.
Music Career
Joining Bands
Paz Lenchantin joined the band A Perfect Circle with Billy Howerdel, Josh Freese, Troy Van Leeuwen, and Maynard James Keenan. She played on their albums Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step. Later, Paz left A Perfect Circle to join Zwan, a band with Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Sweeney, and David Pajo.
In 2002, Paz formed a new band called the Chelsea. This all-female supergroup included Melissa Auf der Maur (from Smashing Pumpkins and Hole), Samantha Maloney, and Radio Sloan. They played only one show in February 2002 before going their separate ways.
Paz returned to play strings and piano for A Perfect Circle's cover album Emotive. This album was released in 2004 and was very popular. She also played a solo cover of "The Hollow" for A Perfect Circle's CD/DVD aMOTION. Since 2005, Paz has worked with the Entrance Band. She helped produce their album Prayer of Death and played bass and violin on it. She also appeared on their earlier album Wandering Stranger (2004). She is now a regular member of the Entrance Band.
Since 2012, Paz has toured with Josephine Foster to promote the Blood Rushing album.
Working with Pixies
In December 2013, it was announced that Paz Lenchantin would be the new touring bassist for Pixies. She took over from founding member Kim Deal and touring bassist Kim Shattuck. In July 2016, Paz confirmed that she was a full-time member of Pixies.
On March 4, 2024, the Pixies announced that Paz Lenchantin had left the band. They stated she left "to concentrate on her own projects."
Other Music Projects
Paz Lenchantin has played strings on the Queens of the Stone Age album Songs for the Deaf. She has also played with David Pajo in Papa M. She contributed fiddle to the Silver Jews record Tanglewood Numbers. She has toured with RTX/Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux. In 2002, she performed on Trust Company's album The Lonely Position of Neutral. In 2005, she played violin on the Kaura song "Dividing Lines". She has also worked with and toured with Jarboe of Swans.
In 2000, she appeared in A Perfect Circle's "Judith" music video as the bassist. Paz also played bass on Brightblack Morning Light's 2006 album. She worked with film director Michael Mann on his movie Miami Vice, playing violin in several scenes. She also played strings on Melissa Auf der Maur's first solo album. In 2008, Paz helped write the Ashes Divide song "Denial Waits". She played violin on Jenny Lewis' second album Acid Tongue. She also played bass on Into the Presence's 2009 album.
