Paz de Río is a small town and a municipality (like a county) in Colombia. It is located in the Boyacá department, which is a part of Colombia. The town is found in a region called the Valderrama Province.
Paz de Río is located on a high plateau known as the Altiplano Cundiboyacense. The town center is about 2,200 meters (7,218 feet) above sea level. The land in the municipality goes even higher, reaching up to 3,600 meters (11,811 feet). Paz de Río shares its borders with several other towns. These include Sativanorte, Sativasur, Betéitiva, Tasco, Socha, Belén, and Tutazá.

Discovering the History of Paz de Río
Before the Spanish arrived in Colombia, the area where Paz de Río is now was home to the Muisca. They were an important group of indigenous people. The original name for a part of the village was Chitagoto. This name came from a Muisca leader, or cacique, named Chitagoto. He was loyal to another powerful Muisca leader called the Tundama, who ruled in Duitama.
Modern Paz de Río was officially started much later. It was founded on July 20, 1935. The person who founded the town was Marco Antonio Mejía Gómez.

The main way people in Paz de Río make a living is through agriculture. This means they grow crops. The most important crops grown here are potatoes and onions. Farmers also grow other foods like maize (corn), wheat, and barley.
