Peace be upon him (Islam) facts for kids
Peace be upon him (PBUH) is a special phrase Muslims say. They use it whenever they talk about the name of the prophet Muhammad. This phrase shows great respect for him. It means "may peace be upon him." Muslims also use it for other important prophets like Jesus and Moses.
Why Muslims Use This Phrase
Muslims say or write "Peace be upon him" to ask for Allah's (God's) blessings for Prophet Muhammad. By doing this, they believe they also receive blessings for themselves. You might see the short forms PBUH or SAAS used in writing. These are common in the Muslim world, even in some official papers.
Its Importance in Islam
The Qur'an, which is the holy book of Islam, tells Muslims to show this respect. A verse in the Qur'an (33:56) says that God and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. It then asks believers to also send blessings and greet him with respect. Saying "Peace be upon him" helps Muslims remember to follow Prophet Muhammad's teachings. It reminds them to try and be like him in their words and actions.
