Peacock Township has a couple of small communities within its borders:
- Peacock is a small, unofficial community. It's located in the northwest part of the township. The main town hall building is found here.
- Wolf Lake is another unofficial community. It sits along the 44th parallel, which is an imaginary line of latitude around the Earth. This community is east of a lake that shares the same name, Wolf Lake.
A Look Back: History of Peacock Township
The area known as Peacock was once a train station. It was part of the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad, which later became the Pere Marquette Railway. This station was about 15 miles north of a town called Baldwin.
The name "Peacock" came from David J. Peacock. He was the very first postmaster, starting on April 15, 1897. A post office was a place where people could send and receive mail. The Peacock post office closed down in 1943.
