Pedro Antonio de Alarcón y Ariza (born March 10, 1833 – died July 19, 1891) was a well-known Spanish writer. He lived in the 1800s. He is most famous for his novel El sombrero de tres picos. This title means 'The Three-Cornered Hat'.

His book, El sombrero de tres picos, tells a story about village life. It shows the traditions of his home region, Andalusia, in Spain. This popular story was later used for a ballet and two operas. These include Manuel de Falla's ballet The Three-Cornered Hat (1919).

Alarcón also wrote another popular short novel. It was called El capitán Veneno [es], which means 'Captain Poison'. He wrote four other full-length novels too. One of these, El escándalo ('The Scandal'), was known for its deep look into people's thoughts. He also wrote three travel books and many short stories and essays.
