Pedro Nieto Antúnez (born August 18, 1898 – died December 6, 1978) was an important Spanish admiral. He held a high position in the Spanish government during a period known as the Francoist dictatorship. From 1962 to 1969, he was the Minister of the Navy. For a short time in February 1964, he also served as the acting Minister of the Army.

Who Was Pedro Nieto Antúnez?

Pedro Nieto Antúnez was born in Ferrol, Galicia, Spain, in 1898. He joined the military and became a high-ranking officer in the Spanish Armed Forces. His career spanned many years, from 1913 until his death in 1978.

Serving as Minister of the Navy

One of his most important roles was serving as the Minister of the Navy for Spain. He held this position for seven years, from July 1962 to October 1969. As Minister of the Navy, he was in charge of all things related to Spain's naval forces. This included managing the country's warships, sailors, and naval operations. He worked under Francisco Franco, who was the head of the Spanish government at that time.

Briefly as Acting Army Minister

In February 1964, Pedro Nieto Antúnez took on another significant role, though it was only for a short period. He became the acting Minister of the Army. Being an "acting" minister means he temporarily filled the role when the regular minister was unavailable. In this position, he would have been responsible for the Spanish Army, similar to how he managed the Navy.
