Peeltown is a small, rural place in Kaufman County, Texas. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government, but is part of a larger county.
About 120 to 150 people live in Peeltown. It is located near County Roads 3094 and 4072. Peeltown is about 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Kaufman. It is also about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of the Trinity River. The community got its name from Monroe Peel. His family moved from Mississippi and settled here in the 1860s.

Life in Peeltown: Past and Present
Peeltown has changed a lot over the years. It used to be a busy farming community. Today, it is much quieter.
Early Days and Growth
In 1910, a large cotton gin was built in Peeltown. A cotton gin is a machine that separates cotton fibers from their seeds. By the 1930s, Peeltown had several important buildings. These included a church, a school, and the cotton gin. Many homes and farms were also part of the community.
Modern Peeltown
As time went on, the school in Peeltown closed down. Today, Peeltown does not have a gas station or a grocery store. However, it does have the Indian Oaks Golf Course. There is also a tree farm nearby.
The main part of Peeltown is where County Roads 3094 and 4072 meet. Here, you can find the Memorial Baptist Church. The Peeltown Cotton Gin is also located here. Some old, empty buildings are in central Peeltown. These include the Little Peeltown Grocery Store and the old Peeltown School. The school stopped working after it was destroyed by a fire.
Peeltown Cemetery: A Look Back
The Peel Family Cemetery is a historic burial ground. It was started in 1876 after J. T. Peel passed away.
Location and Access
The cemetery is about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south of the Kaufman-Henderson County line. It is also near the Old Peeltown Community. You can only reach the cemetery by walking. The path to it crosses a large, deep creek.
Preservation and Condition
The cemetery is on the south side of the creek. It is about 3/4 of an acre in size and has a fence around it. Because it is hard to get to, the cemetery has been well-preserved. However, it is now covered in brush, weeds, and prickly pear plants.
