Peggy Deamer (born Margaret Deamer on February 15, 1950) is a talented architect and a dedicated teacher of architecture. She is an Emeritus Professor of Architecture at Yale University, which means she is a retired professor who still holds her title because of her important work.

Peggy Deamer is also known for her research into how creative work happens. She looks at how artists create and how people experience art. She also studies the idea of "creative labor" from a different point of view, thinking about how people who create things are part of the working world. She helped start an international group called The Architecture Lobby (TAL), which supports architects.

Peggy Deamer's Life and Education

Peggy Deamer studied at several well-known universities. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), from Oberlin College. She then got a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from Cooper Union. Later, she completed her Ph.D. from Princeton University. Her Ph.D. research focused on a British art critic named Adrian Stokes.

Teaching Career

Throughout her career, Peggy Deamer has taught architecture at many different universities. These include Princeton University, Barnard College, Columbia University, Ohio State University, and the University of Kentucky.

In 2007, she moved to New Zealand. There, she was the Head of the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland. She also taught at Unitec and Victoria University.

Other Roles and Contributions

Peggy Deamer has been involved with several important organizations. She served on the board of Storefront for Art and Architecture and the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation. Currently, she is on the board of Perspecta: The Yale Journal of Architecture, which is a respected magazine about architecture. She is also a member of ArchiteXX, a group that supports women in architecture.

Peggy Deamer has designed several buildings. Here are some of her projects:

  • John Q. Hejduk Award from Cooper Union in 2021
  • Artist Residency for "Labor" at the Santa Fe Art Institute in 2020
