Pelham Warren (born 1778, died 1835) was an important English doctor. He was known for his medical skills during his time.

Early Life and Education

Pelham Warren was born in London in 1778. He was the ninth son of Richard Warren, who was also a famous doctor. His father was even the personal physician to King George III.

Pelham went to school at Dr. Thompson's in Kensington. He also studied at Westminster School. Later, he attended Trinity College, Cambridge, starting in 1796.

Medical Career

Pelham Warren earned his first medical degree in 1800. He then got his M.D. degree in 1805. Right after his first degree, he began working as a doctor in London.

In 1803, he became a physician at St. George's Hospital. He worked there until 1816. Some of his well-known patients included Elizabeth Lamb, Viscountess Melbourne.

Warren joined the Royal College of Physicians in 1805. He became a full member in 1806. He held several important roles there, including giving the Harveian Oration in 1826. This was a special speech given each year.

In 1813, he was also chosen to be a member of the Royal Society. This is a very old and respected group for scientists. In 1830, King William IV offered him a special doctor position, but Warren chose not to accept it. He had one of the busiest medical practices in London.

Later Life and Death

Pelham Warren passed away on December 2, 1835. He died at his home, Worting House, near Basingstoke. He was buried in the church at Worting. A special stone was placed there by his friend, Henry Vincent Bayley.

Warren left behind a large amount of money. It was said that a big part of his wealth came from treating a condition called gout.

Published Works

Pelham Warren published his Harveian Oration speech. It was written in Latin and came out in 1827. He also wrote a paper about headaches for the Transactions of the Royal College of Physicians.

Family Life

Pelham Warren married Penelope Shipley on May 3, 1814. She was the daughter of William Davies Shipley. Pelham and Penelope had seven children together. Penelope and their children were still alive when he passed away.
