Pelican Lake is a beautiful lake found in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, USA. It's about seven miles north of a town called Pelican Rapids. This lake is a very popular spot for fun activities like swimming, boating, and fishing. Many people visit Pelican Lake for vacations and outdoor adventures.

Recently, tiny creatures called zebra mussels were found in the lake. These mussels are an invasive species, meaning they are not native to the area. They can cause problems for the lake's environment and other lakes connected by the Pelican River.

Lake Size and Shape

Pelican Lake is quite large, covering an area of about 3,986 acres (16.13 km2). That's like more than 3,000 football fields! The deepest part of the lake is in the northern section, reaching about 64 ft (20 m) deep. The lake got its name because its unique shape looks a lot like a pelican bird.

The Pelican River flows right through Pelican Lake. It carries water southeast into another lake called Lake Lizzie. To the northeast, you'll find Little Pelican Lake. You can travel to Little Pelican Lake by going upstream on the Pelican River. There's also a stream called Spring Creek that brings water into Pelican Lake from Cormorant Lake.

Pelican Lake is a great place for recreation. Many families enjoy spending time here. A popular family resort called Fair Hills Resort is located right on the lake. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Barry's Mansion

On the shores of Pelican Lake, you can find Barry's Mansion. This large estate was built by a businessman and generous person named B. John Barry. He started building it in 1998.
