Pen Mar is found in Washington Township, which is part of Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
The community sits right on the Mason–Dixon line. This famous line separates Pennsylvania from Maryland. To the south, Pen Mar is bordered by the community of Pen Mar Park in Maryland.

The name "Pen Mar" is a mix of two words. It comes from "Pennsylvania" and "Maryland." This name shows its location right on the border between the two states.
Geography and Location
Pen Mar is located in the southeastern part of Franklin County. It sits on the western side of South Mountain. This mountain range runs through both Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania Route 550 is the main road that goes through Pen Mar. This road leads northwest down the mountain for about 2 miles (3.2 km) to Rouzerville. The town of Waynesboro is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) northwest of Pen Mar. The old site of Fort Ritchie in Maryland is about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the southeast.
