The Pendleton Round-Up is a huge yearly rodeo event in the northwestern United States. It takes place in Pendleton, a city in northeastern Oregon. The rodeo happens at the Pendleton Round-Up Stadium during the second full week of September. It has been held every year since 1910. About 50,000 people visit the city for this exciting event each year.
The Pendleton Round-Up is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). This means it's a professional rodeo. In 2008, the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado, added the Pendleton Round-Up to its list of famous rodeos.
The Round-Up started as a non-profit group on July 29, 1910. It was first called the "Northwestern Frontier Exhibition Association." Local ranchers, especially Herman Rosenberg, helped create this big event.
The Pendleton Round-Up has won the PRCA Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year award many times. It won in 2003, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

A famous bronc rider named Bonnie McCarroll (1897–1929) had an accident at the Pendleton Round-Up. After this, the PRCA, which started in 1936, did not schedule events for women for some time.

The first Pendleton Round-Up happened in 1910. It began because people in Pendleton wanted to create a city park. The event was an instant hit! It grew much bigger in its first few years.
The Round-Up has only been canceled a few times. It was canceled in 1943 and 1944 because of World War II. It was also canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Round-Up Week Fun
Round-Up week starts with the Dress Up Parade. This parade happens on the Saturday before the rodeo begins. Different groups from Eastern Oregon join in. This includes Boy and Girl Scouts, the Pendleton High School Band, and local businesses. They build cool floats and compete to win first place.
The Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show is also a big part of the week. In 2017, it became the official outdoor pageant for the state of Oregon.
On Friday of Round-Up week, there's the Westward Ho! parade. In this parade, no motor vehicles are allowed. Most people use real covered wagons or horse-drawn buggies. Some people ride horses or walk.
On Monday and Tuesday before the main rodeo, the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale takes place. This bull riding event happens in the Happy Canyon Arena.
The main Round-Up rodeo and Happy Canyon shows officially begin on Wednesday.
Grand Entry Parade
The rodeo kicks off with an amazing Grand Entry. Flag bearers ride in on horseback at top speed. They carry the Flag of the United States, the Flag of Oregon, the Flag of Canada, and the flag of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Then, the Round-Up Queen and her court ride their horses at full speed. They make two jumps and stop right before the fence in front of the south grandstand. It's a very exciting start!
Rodeo Announcers and Bullfighters
The person who announces the Pendleton Round-Up is Wayne Brooks. The brave bullfighters, who protect the cowboys from bulls, are Dusty Tuckness and Tim O'Conner.
