History of Pennellville
Pennellville gets its name from Richard Pennell M.D. He was a doctor from New York. His wife inherited the land from her father, George C. Schroeppel.
In 1833, Dr. Pennell decided to build a sawmill in the area. This mill was built by Laren Seymour. The mill was placed on a stream that the local Native American tribe called Ahinahtanaganus. This name means "big fish water."
