People's Army of Vietnam facts for kids
The People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) is the official military of Vietnam today. It was also the army of North Vietnam when Vietnam was divided. The PAVN fought in two big wars: the First Indochina War and the Vietnam War.
During the First Indochina War, people often called this army the Viet Minh. Later, during the Vietnam War, it was known as the North Vietnamese Army (NVA). It's important not to mix up the NVA with the Viet Cong. The Viet Cong were South Vietnamese people who supported North Vietnam.
The NVA built a secret network of paths called the Ho Chi Minh Trail. These trails mostly went through Laos and Cambodia. They were used to send NVA soldiers into South Vietnam. The trails also helped supply the Viet Cong. This support helped them fight against non-communist soldiers.
