Alfonza "Pep" Hamilton (born September 19, 1974) is a well-known American football coach. He is currently the offensive coordinator for the Maryland Terrapins. Before this, he was the head coach and general manager for the DC Defenders in the XFL. He also coached quarterbacks for the Los Angeles Chargers and was an offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL).

College Quarterback Career
Pep Hamilton grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went to West Charlotte High School. From 1993 to 1996, he played quarterback at Howard University. While playing for Howard, he was recognized as a scholar-athlete. This award showed he was good at both sports and academics.
Pep Hamilton's Coaching Journey
Starting His Coaching Career
Hamilton began his coaching journey at Howard University. He first coached the team's quarterbacks. Later, he became the team's offensive coordinator. After his time at Howard, he moved to the National Football League. He coached for the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers. On March 5, 2007, he became the quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears.
Coaching at Universities
In 2010, Hamilton was hired by the University of New Mexico Lobos. He was going to be a co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. However, he soon left New Mexico for Stanford University. At Stanford, he became the wide receivers coach. In 2011, he was promoted to offensive coordinator under head coach David Shaw.
Coaching the Indianapolis Colts
In 2013, Hamilton became the new offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. This move brought him back together with his former Stanford quarterback, Andrew Luck. He also reunited with tight end Coby Fleener and wide receiver Griff Whalen. Hamilton had turned down another coaching offer to join the Colts. He wanted to work with Andrew Luck again. The Colts later fired Hamilton on November 3, 2015.
Coaching the Cleveland Browns
In January 2016, Hamilton joined the Cleveland Browns. He was named the associate head coach and quarterbacks coach.
Coaching the Michigan Wolverines
In 2017, Hamilton signed a contract to coach for the Michigan Wolverines. He stayed with them for two seasons.
Leading the DC Defenders
In February 2019, Hamilton joined the XFL. He became the head coach and general manager for the DC Defenders. This was for the 2020 XFL season.
Coaching the Los Angeles Chargers
In April 2020, Hamilton moved to the Los Angeles Chargers. He became their quarterbacks coach for the 2020 NFL season. He played a big part in the success of Justin Herbert. Herbert won the offensive rookie of the year award that season.
Coaching the Houston Texans
On March 10, 2021, Hamilton was hired by the Houston Texans. He was their passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This was under head coach David Culley. On February 7, 2022, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. After the 2022 season, he left the Texans.
Coaching the Maryland Terrapins
On February 4, 2025, Pep Hamilton was hired by the Maryland Terrapins. He is now their offensive coordinator.
