Pequawket Brook is a small stream in New Hampshire, United States. It is about 6.4 miles (10.3 kilometers) long. This brook is located near the beautiful White Mountains.
The water from Pequawket Brook eventually flows into the Saco River. The Saco River then travels all the way to the Atlantic Ocean in Maine. This means Pequawket Brook is part of the Saco River's watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a single river or lake.
About Pequawket Brook
Pequawket Brook is an important part of the local environment. Rules are in place to protect the land along its banks. These rules help keep the water clean and the natural areas healthy for plants and animals.
Where Does it Start and End?
Pequawket Brook begins in the town of Madison, New Hampshire. It starts near a low area of land north of Silver Lake.
The brook then flows north. It passes by areas where sand and gravel are dug up from the ground. It continues its journey to Conway.
In Conway, the brook flows into Pequawket Pond. This pond is a natural body of water that has been made larger by a small dam. The dam is in the center of Conway village.
After leaving the pond, the brook flows north for about half a mile. It then joins the Swift River. The Swift River itself flows into the Saco River very close by.
Traveling Along the Brook
You can find roads that follow parts of Pequawket Brook. New Hampshire Route 113 runs alongside the brook in northern Madison.
Further along, NH-16 follows the brook from NH-113 all the way to Conway village. There is also a train line, called the Conway Branch rail line, that runs near the brook and ponds.
