Perkins Run is a small stream, or "run," located in New Castle County, Delaware. It flows for about 3.03 mi (4.88 km) before joining the larger Delaware River. This stream is called a "2nd order tributary." This means it's a smaller stream that flows into a slightly larger one, which then flows into an even bigger river like the Delaware. The stream got its name from the Perkins Farm, which used to be located close to where the run meets the Delaware River.

Where Perkins Run Starts and Ends

Perkins Run begins in an area called the South Branch Naamans Creek divide, near the town of Arden, Delaware. A "divide" is like a high point of land that separates different watersheds. From there, Perkins Run flows generally towards the southeast. It eventually reaches its end point, flowing into the Delaware River. This meeting point is about 0.2 miles east of Holly Oak, Delaware.

The Perkins Run Watershed

A "watershed" is an area of land where all the water, like rain or snowmelt, drains into a common body of water, such as a river, lake, or ocean. The Perkins Run watershed covers an area of about 1.93 square miles (5.0 km2). This means all the rain that falls on this land eventually makes its way into Perkins Run.

The area around Perkins Run receives a good amount of rain each year, about 46.5 inches. About 16.7% of the land in this watershed is covered by forests. These forests are important because they help to filter the water and keep the stream healthy.
