Pershing is a small, unincorporated community located in Fulton County, Indiana, United States. It's found in northern Rochester Township, not far from the city of Rochester. This community is situated along County Road 400W.

A Look Back at Pershing's History

Pershing has an interesting past, especially concerning its name! It was originally known as Germany, Indiana. However, during World War I, many people in the United States felt strongly against Germany. Because of these feelings, the community decided to change its name to Pershing.

The name Pershing was chosen to honor John J. Pershing, a famous American general from World War I. This change happened to show support for the United States during the war.

The community also had a post office. It was first set up as "Germany" in 1886. However, it stopped operating in 1905, before the name change to Pershing.

The Historic Germany Bridge

Near Pershing, there was once a very old bridge called the Germany Bridge. This bridge was so important that it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes special places that are important to history.

Sadly, the original Germany Bridge was replaced with a new one in 1980. After the new bridge was built, the old historic bridge was removed from the National Register.
