Perugina's main office is in Milan, Italy. However, all the factories and the special Chocolate School are still located in Perugia.
History of Perugina Chocolates
Perugina was started in 1907 by four people: Francesco Buitoni, Annibale Spagnoli, Leone Ascoli, and Francesco Andreani. They founded the company in Perugia, a city in the Umbria region of central Italy. A lot of Perugina's success is thanks to Luisa Spagnoli. She helped create the Perugina chocolate brand and played a very important part in setting up and growing the chocolate factory.
The company became known in the United States at the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. After that, Perugina became famous for making fine chocolates. Around 1939, Perugina also opened its own store on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Perugina's Sweet Products
Perugina makes many different kinds of chocolate and food products. These include chocolate bars, hard candies, nougat, and biscotti. Around Easter time, a very popular product they make is chocolate Easter eggs. These eggs are wrapped in bright, colorful paper.
A very famous product from Perugina is the Baci chocolate kisses. These chocolates are filled with hazelnuts. Each Baci chocolate is wrapped in a special paper that has a love note on it. These notes are written in many languages, like Italian, English, French, German, Greek, Spanish, or Portuguese. The Baci chocolate was first introduced in 1922.
