Peter, Paul and Mary was a famous American folk music group. They were very popular in the 1960s. The group had three members: Peter Yarrow, Paul (Noel) Stookey, and Mary Travers.
They sang many well-known songs. Some of these include "If I Had a Hammer" (also called "The Hammer Song") and "Puff, the Magic Dragon." They also sang "Leavin' On a Jet Plane," which was written by John Denver. Another famous song they sang was "Blowin' in the Wind," written by Bob Dylan. They recorded other songs by Bob Dylan, which helped him become more famous early in his career.
Peter, Paul and Mary made many records. They also traveled a lot to perform concerts. You could see them on television shows, like The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
The group stopped performing together in 1970. But they later got back together in 1978. They went on tours and recorded new music again. Mary Travers passed away on September 16, 2009, after battling a serious illness.
