Peter Daicos (born 20 September 1961) is a famous former Australian rules football player. He played his entire 15-year career for the Collingwood Football Club in the VFL/AFL. Many people think he is one of the greatest players in Collingwood's history.

Known for his amazing skills, Daicos kicked 549 goals in 250 games. His incredible talent earned him a place in the Australian Football Hall of Fame. He helped Collingwood win the 1990 AFL premiership and won the Goal of the Year award in 1991. He was so good that he was often called the "Macedonian Marvel" because of his family's background and his magical plays on the field.

Daicos was also named in Collingwood's Team of the Century, which honours the best players in the club's history. He won the club's best-and-fairest award, the Copeland Trophy, twice.

A Star Player for Collingwood

Peter Daicos started his career with the Collingwood Football Club in 1979. He played his first game against St Kilda, where his team had a huge win. He stayed with Collingwood for his whole career, playing 250 games and kicking 549 goals before he retired in 1993.

A major highlight of his career was winning the 1990 premiership. In that important match, he kicked Collingwood's very first goal.

The Magician on the Field

The 1990 season was one of his best. Daicos scored 97 goals, which was an amazing achievement because he wasn't playing as the main forward. He was famous for scoring goals from tricky angles that seemed impossible.

His clever moves and ability to trick defenders earned him another nickname: 'The Magician'. One of his most famous goals, which tied the scores in the 1990 Qualifying Final, was so memorable that it was later used in a Toyota TV advertisement.

Life After Football

After he stopped playing professionally, Peter Daicos stayed involved with football. In 2005, he became a coach for a local club called the Greythorn Falcons and led them to a big win in their Grand Final.

He also started a company called SportzStats in 2007. It helps young athletes in different sports keep track of their game statistics. In 2010, he returned to the sport as a commentator for the AFL Live radio team.

Family and Heritage

Peter Daicos was born in Melbourne. His parents, Stamko and Milka, moved to Australia from a village in the region of Macedonia, Greece. During his career, Daicos was proud of his family's background, which led to his nickname, the 'Macedonian Marvel'.

Football runs in the Daicos family. His oldest son, Josh Daicos, was drafted by Collingwood in 2016. His other son, Nick Daicos, was also drafted by Collingwood in 2021. Both sons have become star players, and they won the 2023 AFL premiership with Collingwood, just like their dad did.

In 2024, Peter appeared as a contestant on the TV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He also became a football commentator on the morning TV show Sunrise.

Why Peter Daicos is a Legend

Peter Daicos's impact on Australian rules football is still felt today. In 1999, he was officially recognised as one of the game's greats when he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. He was also named in the Collingwood Team of the Century and the honorary AFL Greek Team of the Century.

The 'Daicos-Style' Goal

His name is now used to describe a special type of goal. When a player scores a difficult goal from the boundary line, especially by cleverly dribbling the ball along the ground, commentators and fans often call it a 'Daicos-style goal'.

This legacy continued when his son, Josh Daicos, won the Goal of the Year award in 2020. Josh scored an amazing goal from the boundary line that reminded everyone of the incredible skills of his father.

Peter Daicos also holds a record at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast. In 1991, he kicked 13 goals in a single game there, the most ever kicked at that ground.
