Peter Planch Madsen (born on April 26, 1978) is a Danish former football player. He played as a striker, which is a player who focuses on scoring goals.

Peter Madsen started and finished his football career with the club Brøndby IF in Denmark. He helped them win the Danish Superliga three times. He was also the top scorer in the league during the 2001–02 season.

He also played for clubs in Germany, including VfL Wolfsburg, VfL Bochum, and 1. FC Köln. He played 63 games in Germany's top league, the Bundesliga, and scored 18 goals. He also had a short time playing for Southampton in England in 2006.

Madsen played 13 games for the Danish national team and scored three goals. This was between 2001 and 2005. He was part of the Danish teams that played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004.

Early Years and Brøndby Success

Peter Madsen was born in Roskilde, Denmark. He began playing football as a young player for Roskilde B 06. Later, he joined the youth team of Brøndby IF. He played 35 matches for different Danish national youth teams from 1993 to 1999.

He made his first appearance for Brøndby's senior team in April 1997. During his six years with the club, he helped them win the Danish Superliga championship three times. They also won the Danish Cup in 1998. In the 2001–02 season, he was the top scorer in the league, scoring 22 goals. He shared this title with another player, Kaspar Dalgas.

Playing in Germany and England

In January 2003, Madsen moved to Germany to play for VfL Wolfsburg. He played in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league. Wolfsburg had an option to buy him permanently, but they decided not to.

So, in the summer of 2003, Madsen joined VfL Bochum, another team in the same league. In his first season with Bochum, he scored 13 goals in the league.

After Bochum was moved down to a lower league in 2005, Madsen joined 1. FC Köln in July 2005. On January 30, 2006, he went on loan to Southampton, an English club. He played nine league games for Southampton and scored two goals. After this loan, he returned to Köln, which had also been moved down to a lower league. He played 13 games for Köln in that league before leaving the club.

Return to Brøndby

In May 2007, Peter Madsen decided to return to Brøndby IF. He signed a five-year contract that started on July 1. He continued to play for Brøndby until 2012. Towards the end of his career, he also played on loan for Lyngby from 2011 to 2012.

Playing for Denmark

Peter Madsen played his first game for the Danish national team on October 6, 2001. This was a qualifying match for the 2002 FIFA World Cup against Iceland. He came into the game as a substitute in the 69th minute.

The coach, Morten Olsen, chose Madsen to be part of the 23-player squad for the World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Denmark reached the last 16 teams in the tournament.
