Peter Planch Madsen (born on April 26, 1978) is a Danish footballer who used to play professionally as a striker. He was known for scoring goals and helping his team win.

Peter Madsen started and finished his football career with the club Brøndby IF in Denmark. With Brøndby, he won the top Danish league, the Danish Superliga, three times. He was also one of the best scorers in the league during the 2001–02 season.

He also played for several teams in Germany, including VfL Wolfsburg, VfL Bochum, and 1. FC Köln. For a short time in 2006, he played for Southampton in England. Peter Madsen also played 13 games for the Danish national team and scored three goals. He was part of the Danish teams that played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004.

Peter Madsen's Football Journey

Peter Madsen was born in Roskilde, Denmark. He began playing football as a young boy for Roskilde B 06. Later, he joined the youth team of Brøndby IF, a well-known club. From 1993 to 1999, he played 35 games and scored nine goals for different Danish national youth teams.

Starting Strong: Brøndby IF

Peter made his first professional appearance for Brøndby in April 1997. He spent six years with the club, winning the Danish Superliga championship three times. He also helped Brøndby win the Danish Cup in 1998. In the 2001–02 season, Peter Madsen was the top scorer in the league, sharing the title with another player, Kaspar Dalgas.

Adventures in Germany

In January 2003, Peter Madsen moved to Germany to play for VfL Wolfsburg in the top German league, the Bundesliga. This was a loan deal, meaning he played for them for a short time. Wolfsburg had an option to buy him, but they decided not to.

So, in the summer of 2003, Peter joined another German team, VfL Bochum, which was also in the Bundesliga. In his first season with Bochum, he scored 13 goals in the league, which was a great achievement.

After the 2004–05 season, Bochum moved down to a lower league. Peter then moved to 1. FC Köln in July 2005. In January 2006, he went on loan again, this time to Southampton, an English club in the Championship league. He scored two goals in nine games for Southampton before going back to Köln. Köln had also moved down to a lower league by then. Peter played 13 more games for Köln before leaving the club.

Returning Home: Brøndby Again

In May 2007, Peter Madsen decided to return to his first club, Brøndby IF. He signed a five-year contract, starting from July 1. He continued to play for Brøndby until 2012, including a loan spell at Lyngby from 2011 to 2012.

Playing for Denmark

Peter Madsen also had the honor of playing for the Danish national team. His first game for Denmark was on October 6, 2001. It was a qualifying match for the 2002 FIFA World Cup against Iceland. He came into the game as a substitute.

Big Tournaments: World Cup and Euro

The national team coach, Morten Olsen, chose Peter Madsen to be part of the 23-player squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Although he was part of the team, he did not play in any games during the tournament. Denmark reached the last 16 in that World Cup.

Peter was also called up to play in UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal. He played one game in this tournament, which was the quarter-final match against the Czech Republic. He came on as a substitute in the last 19 minutes of the game.

Scoring for His Country

Peter Madsen played a total of 13 games for the Danish national team. He scored his only international goals on August 18, 2004. In a friendly game against Poland in Poznań, he scored three goals, which is called a hat-trick. Denmark won that game 5–1.

Peter's Life Off the Field

In March 2020, Peter Madsen tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. He had been at a birthday party in Amsterdam with some of his former teammates. He was tested after one of his friends tested positive. Peter only had a slight headache and stayed at home to recover.
