Peter Eiberg Thorup (born December 14, 1948 – died August 3, 2007) was a talented Danish musician. He played the guitar, sang, wrote music, and even produced records. Peter Thorup became one of Denmark's most important blues musicians. He was also well-known outside Denmark. This happened in the late 1960s when he met Alexis Korner. Together, they started several bands, including New Church, The Beefeaters, CCS, and later Snape.

Peter Thorup's Musical Journey
Peter Thorup started his music career at a young age. When he was 18, he played in a Danish band called Beefeaters. This is where he first met Alexis Korner. Korner was on a concert tour in Scandinavia at the time.
Forming New Bands
After meeting, Thorup and Korner decided to form a new band called New Church. Then, in 1970, they created CCS. This band was built around Korner and Thorup. Many other musicians joined them for different performances. Some regular members included Tony Carr on drums and Herbie Flowers on bass guitar. Trumpet players like Harold Beckett and Henry Lowther also played with them.
CCS was one of the first groups to record music for Mickie Most's RAK Records. A musician named John Cameron helped arrange their songs. CCS had several hit songs. One of their biggest hits was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". This song became famous as the theme music for the BBC Television show Top Of The Pops.
The Sound of CCS
The music of CCS had a special sound. It combined Korner's deep, growling voice with Thorup's higher singing tones. The band continued to make music until 1973.
Snape and Beyond
In 1973, Korner and Thorup decided to form a new band called Snape. They started Snape while on tour with the band King Crimson in the United States. Some members of King Crimson, like Boz Burrell and Mel Collins, joined Korner and Thorup to continue the tour.
Peter Thorup also appeared on Alexis Korner's 1972 album, Accidentally Born in New Orleans. Snape even released a live album in Germany. During this time, Thorup often played in London's nightclubs. He performed with Korner and bass player Colin Hodgkinson.
Returning to Denmark
In 1976, Peter Thorup moved back to Denmark. There, he started working with other Danish musicians. One of these was a famous Danish artist named Sebastian.
Peter Thorup mostly played rock and blues music. However, he also had a local pop hit. In 1984, he recorded a Danish version of the song "Islands in the Stream". He sang this song with a Danish singer named Anne Grete.
In the last few decades of his life, Peter Thorup lived a quieter life. He played smaller concerts around Denmark and recorded a few more albums.
