Petr Pokorný (born April 21, 1933 – died January 18, 2020) was an important religious scholar and teacher from the Czech Republic. He was a Protestant theologian, which means he studied religion and Christian beliefs deeply. He also taught at Charles University in Prague and was a pastor, guiding people in the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. Many people considered him one of the top experts in studying the Bible in his country.
What Did Petr Pokorný Do?
Petr Pokorný spent many years teaching about the New Testament part of the Bible. He taught at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the Prague University. From 1996 to 1999, he was the dean of this faculty. Being a dean is like being the head of a school department.
Later, from 1998 to 2010, he also directed the Centre for Biblical Studies. This center was a joint effort between the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. It focused on deep research into the Bible. His work helped many students and scholars understand the Bible better.
