Pfons was a small village, or municipality, in the beautiful region of Tyrol, Austria. It was located about 13.7 kilometers (about 8.5 miles) south of the city of Innsbruck. Pfons was nestled in a valley called Wipptal, right by the Sill River.
History of Pfons
The name "Pfons" has a long history, though its exact meaning isn't fully known. It was first mentioned way back in the year 1030, when it was called "Phunzun." Later, in 1177, it appeared as "Phanes."
For a long time, Pfons was part of a nearby town called Matrei am Brenner. However, in 1811, Pfons became an independent municipality. This meant it could manage its own local affairs.
Recent Changes for Pfons
On January 1, 2022, Pfons joined with another nearby village, Mühlbachl. They both merged back into the municipality of Matrei am Brenner. So, Pfons is now part of Matrei am Brenner again.
