Pharisburg is a small place in Ohio, United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

Pharisburg is located in Union County, within Leesburg Township. You can find it where two main roads, Ohio State Route 4 and Ohio State Route 347, cross paths. It's about two miles west of another community called Magnetic Springs.

History of Pharisburg

Pharisburg has an interesting past, including a name change and a post office that opened and closed several times!

How Pharisburg Got Its Name

The area we now call Pharisburg was first planned out in 1848. A man named Allen Pharis was responsible for this. When it was first settled, the community was known as Scotts Corners. However, it later changed its name to Pharisburg to honor the Pharis family.

The Pharisburg Post Office

Having a post office was very important for communities long ago. Pharisburg had its own post office, but it had a bit of a complicated history:

  • It first opened on April 25, 1840, under the name "Pharisburgh Post Office."
  • It closed down a few years later, on October 24, 1845.
  • But it reopened on September 7, 1848!
  • On March 26, 1892, its name was officially changed to "Pharisburg Post Office."
  • Finally, the post office closed for good on April 15, 1908.

Today, people in Pharisburg get their mail through the Marysville post office branch.
