History of Phelps City
Phelps City was officially planned and mapped out in 1868. This process is called "platting." The community was named after Willis Phelps, who was one of the people who owned the land where the town was built.
A post office was opened in Phelps City in 1868. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office stayed open until 1954.
