The Philippi Glacier is a large, slow-moving river of ice. It flows towards the east and ends in a place called Brandt Cove. This cove is on the southwest side of Drygalski Fjord. The glacier is located at the southeast end of South Georgia.

Filchner named the glacier after Emil Philippi. Emil Philippi was a scientist who studied glaciers. Scientists who study glaciers are called glaciologists. Philippi was part of another German expedition, the German Antarctic Expedition, from 1901 to 1903. That expedition was led by Erich von Drygalski. Emil Philippi was also a professor of geology at the University of Jena in Germany.
