Phillips Ranch is built on land that used to be part of a large ranch owned by Louis Phillips. In 1864, Louis Phillips bought this land, which was part of the huge 22,340-acre Rancho San Jose. He bought it from two businessmen who had previously purchased it from Ricardo Vejar.
