About Phoenix Tower
The Phoenix Tower is located near Greenway Plaza. It sits between two busy parts of Houston: Downtown Houston and Uptown.
Fun Features
One cool thing about the tower is a special golf putting green. It is on top of the building's parking garage! This nine-hole green was designed by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus. It was created so people working in the building could relax during their day.
The tower has a lot of space for offices. It has about 629,024 square feet (58,437 square meters) of office space. In 2012, a company called Parkway Properties bought the tower. They paid about $124.5 million for it.
Who Works There?
Over the years, many companies have had offices in the Phoenix Tower. For example, Trico Marine Services used to have its main office here. They still keep a small office in the tower.
Another company, Champion Technologies, also had its main office in the Phoenix Tower. Later, Champion Technologies joined with another company called Ecolab. The new company, Nalco Champion, still uses the tower for many of its employees.
A Stormy Day
In 1983, a big storm called Hurricane Alicia hit Houston. Strong winds from the hurricane blew things around. Debris from the parking garage, which was still being built, flew onto a nearby road called Buffalo Speedway.
