History of Pie de la Cuesta
Ancient Settlements
People have lived in the Pie de la Cuesta area for a very long time. Scientists have found ancient cave paintings and petroglyphs (pictures carved into rocks). These artworks date back to about 1200 BC.
They show that early communities here mostly focused on fishing. Farming and hunting were also important activities for these ancient people.
Literary Inspiration
The famous author Gabriel García Márquez once shared a secret about his writing. He said that the idea for his well-known novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, came to him in the mid-1960s. This happened while he was driving the 10 kilometers from Acapulco to Pie de la Cuesta.
Tourism and Activities
Pie de la Cuesta is a unique place with two different types of water. On one side, there are the rough waves of the open sea. On the other side, there is a very calm lagoon.
Lagoon Fun
The calm lagoon is perfect for activities like waterskiing. You can also take boat trips to see a small "island" called Isla Montosa. This island was once known for its crocodiles, which a man named Don Pio used to catch.
Beach Atmosphere
The beach at Pie de la Cuesta has stronger waves and is a bit further from the main tourist areas of Acapulco. Because of this, it is not as crowded as some other beaches. However, many people prefer it for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
Visitors often enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the ocean. The prices for places to stay are also usually better here. Many small, family-run resorts offer a cozy and welcoming experience.
