Moving to a new country was a big change, and Pierre faced bullying. He discovered that he could use comedy and humor to deal with these challenges. His talent for making people laugh was noticed early on. In the 6th grade, he was even featured on the TV show Good Morning America for his great sense of humor.

While in high school, Pierre started performing stand-up comedy at clubs in the Washington, D.C. area. He shared the stage with other young comedians who would later become very famous, like Martin Lawrence, Dave Chappelle, and Wanda Sykes. In 1987, after a very difficult and dangerous event in his life, Pierre decided to focus seriously on his comedy career. He saw his friends finding success in Hollywood and decided to move there in 1991.
