Pigeon Spire is a tall, pointed mountain peak located in the Purcell Mountains. These mountains are part of the larger Columbia Mountains in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. It's a very popular spot for climbers!
About Pigeon Spire
Pigeon Spire is one of the most climbed peaks in an area called The Bugaboos. It's popular because it's fairly easy to reach from the Vowell Glacier. Plus, there's a well-known climbing path called the West Ridge. This route is considered an easier climb.
On a busy weekend, you might see many people climbing this route. It's common to have a couple dozen climbers enjoying the challenge. While the West Ridge is popular for its easier climb, there are also longer and harder routes. These more difficult paths are found on the spire's North and East faces.
Climbing Routes
Climbers use different paths, or "routes," to reach the top of Pigeon Spire. Each route has a different level of difficulty.
- West Ridge (II, 5.4): This is the most common and easiest way to climb Pigeon Spire. The "II" means it's a multi-pitch climb that takes a few hours. The "5.4" is a rock climbing grade, meaning it's a relatively easy climb on rock.
