Pikes Peak is a small, unincorporated community located in Van Buren Township. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It is found within Brown County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The Story of Pikes Peak

According to an old story, a man named James Ward had a big dream. He wanted to move all the way to Colorado. He painted a bold message on his covered wagon: "Pikes Peak or Bust!" This meant he would either reach Pikes Peak in Colorado or give up trying.

However, James Ward (or perhaps a man named Miller, as some stories say) only made it as far as this spot in Indiana. To avoid looking like he failed, he decided to call his store "Pikes Peak." The name stuck, and that's how this community got its unique name!

A Local Post Office

A post office was opened in Pikes Peak in 1868. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. It stayed open until it was closed down in 1907.
