Pilar Lardizabal Hidalgo-Lim (born May 24, 1893 – died December 8, 1973) was a very important Filipino educator and leader. She was married to Brigadier General Vicente Lim, a hero from World War II. Pilar Hidalgo-Lim helped shape education and women's rights in the Philippines.

Early Life and Important Work

Pilar Hidalgo-Lim studied at the University of the Philippines. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors. After graduating, she became a mathematics teacher. She taught at both the University of the Philippines and Centro Escolar University.

Family Life and Civic Actions

On August 12, 1917, Pilar married Lieutenant Vicente Lim. He was a graduate of West Point, a famous military academy. They had six children together: Luis, Roberto, Vicente Jr., Patricio, Eulalia, and Maria.

Pilar Hidalgo-Lim was very active in helping her community. She became the President of the National Federation of Women's Clubs. This group worked to improve the lives of women. She strongly supported women's suffrage. Suffrage means the right to vote. Thanks to her efforts and others, President Manuel L. Quezon signed a law in 1937. This law gave Filipino women the right to vote.

In 1940, Pilar Hidalgo-Lim worked with Josefa Llanes Escoda. Together, they helped create the Girl Scouts of the Philippines. This organization helps young girls learn important skills and values. She also worked for a movie company in Manila called Parlatone Hispano-Filipino Studios. When World War II began, Pilar and her children were in the United States.

Post-War Contributions

Pilar Hidalgo-Lim and her family returned to the Philippines in 1946. After the war, she continued to serve her country.

Government Roles and Education Leadership

Under President Elpidio Quirino, Pilar Hidalgo-Lim held several important positions. She was a member of the Board of Censors for Motion Pictures. This board reviewed movies to make sure they were appropriate. She also served on the Parole Board and the Integrity Board. She continued these roles during the terms of Presidents Ramon Magsaysay and Carlos P. Garcia.

After Carmen de Luna passed away, Pilar Hidalgo-Lim became the third president of Centro Escolar University. She led the university during a difficult time. She helped rebuild the school and brought back normal operations after World War II. Her leadership was key to the university's recovery and growth.
