How Did Centro Escolar University Start?
CEU began in 1907 as the Centro Escolar de Señoritas. It was started by two teachers, Librada Avelino and Carmen de Luna. The school was first located in Parañaque. Its main goal was to teach young women to be ideal citizens and leaders.
At that time, it was the first school in the Philippines for women that was not run by a religious group. In 1921, it opened the College of Pharmacy. This was a big step in medical education in the country. Later, other colleges were added, like Liberal Arts, Education, Business, Dentistry, and Optometry.
The school became a university in 1930. In 1932, its name was changed to Centro Escolar University. In 2009, the School of Law and Jurisprudence was opened.
CEU also has an Integrated School for younger students. It was revived in 2014 and is now available in Manila, Malolos, and Makati.
