History of CEU
CEU began in 1907 as the Centro Escolar de Señoritas. It was founded by teachers Librada Avelino and Carmen de Luna. The school's main goal was to teach young women to be smart, good citizens, and leaders. It was the first non-religious school for women in the Philippines.
In 1921, it started the first College of Pharmacy in the Philippines. This was a big step for medical education in the country. Later, other colleges like Liberal Arts, Education, Business, Dentistry, and Optometry were added.
The school became a university in 1930. In 1932, its name changed to Centro Escolar University. In 2009, the School of Law and Jurisprudence was opened.
CEU also has an Integrated School for younger students. It was first part of the university when it started. After a break, it was brought back in 2014. Now, the Centro Escolar Integrated School (CEIS) is available in Manila, Malolos, and Makati.
CEU has had seven presidents since it began. These leaders have guided the university through its history. The current president is Danilo Concepcion.
