History of Pinehurst

The area where Pinehurst is now had a post office way back in 1860. It was first called "Prairie Home." Later, in 1871, its name changed to "Hunter's Retreat." Finally, in 1904, after a railroad was built nearby, the town got its current name, Pinehurst.
