Discovering Pingaring

The Story Behind the Name

The name Pingaring comes from the Indigenous Australian people. It is the name of a natural spring nearby. Surveyors first wrote down this name in 1926.

How Pingaring Started

Pingaring began as a railway siding. This is a short section of railway track where trains can stop or pass each other. It was part of the railway line that connected Hyden to Lake Grace. The exact spot for the town was chosen in 1930. Later, in 1963, Pingaring was officially recognized as a town. This is called being gazetted.

Farming in Pingaring

The land around Pingaring is very important for farming. Farmers here grow lots of wheat and other cereal crops. These crops are used to make many foods we eat every day. The town also has a special site called a receival site. This is where farmers bring their harvested grain to be stored and sent out. It is run by a company called Cooperative Bulk Handling.
