What is the History of Pioneer?
Not much is known about the very early days of Pioneer. However, it's thought that more people started moving to the area in the 1850s. This was likely because of steamboat traffic on Bayou Macon, a nearby waterway. Pioneer officially became a village in 1911.

Pioneer is found at coordinates 32.736730 degrees North and 91.434523 degrees West. The village covers a total area of 1.1 square miles (about 2.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large bodies of water within the village limits.

What About Schools in Pioneer?
Public schools in West Carroll Parish are managed by the West Carroll Parish School Board. Pioneer used to have its own school, Pioneer Elementary School. However, this school closed after the 2006-2007 school year. This was part of a plan to combine schools across the parish.
After the closure, most students from Pioneer started going to Forest High School in the nearby village of Forest. A smaller group of about 55 students, who lived in the northeastern part of Pioneer's school zone, began attending Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove.
