Pizza Schmizza is an American pizza restaurant chain. It has several locations in and around Portland, Oregon. The restaurant is famous for its thin crust pizza by the slice. This means you can buy just one piece of pizza instead of a whole pie.
The Story of Pizza Schmizza
Pizza Schmizza was started by two brothers, Andre and Roger Jehan. They opened their very first restaurant on August 6, 1993, in the city of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Over the years, the company has been noticed for its creative ideas. In 2003, the company tried a unique way to help people in need. They paid people to hold signs for the restaurant instead of asking for money. The owner, Andre Jehan, said it was a way to help them, and the people involved felt it was a good experience.
In 2004, Pizza Schmizza won an award from the Oregon Department of Human Services. The award was for supporting a program that encouraged young people to make healthy choices.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, many stores ran out of toilet paper. One Pizza Schmizza location got attention for a special deal. With every pizza order, customers also received a free roll of toilet paper!
A Brief Partnership
For a while, the person in charge of Pizza Schmizza, called the CEO, couldn't manage the company's daily tasks. So, the company talked with another pizza chain, Figaro's Pizza.
On March 31, 2008, Figaro's Pizza bought Pizza Schmizza. However, this partnership didn't last forever. In December 2014, the two companies became separate again. Today, they are not related to each other.
Other Restaurants
The company that owns Pizza Schmizza, called Schmizza International, has opened other types of restaurants in the Portland area. These include the Bethany Public House and the Schmizza Public House. The Schmizza Public House is meant to be a fancier version of a regular Pizza Schmizza.
