Plainfield is a small community in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people. In 2010, about 399 people lived here. Plainfield is also part of the larger Harrisburg–Carlisle metropolitan statistical area.
Where is Plainfield Located?
Plainfield is found in the eastern part of West Pennsboro Township. You can find it at these coordinates: 40°12′7″N 77°17′12″W / 40.20194°N 77.28667°W.
The main road through Plainfield is Pennsylvania Route 641, also called Main Street. If you travel east on this road, you'll reach Carlisle in about 5 miles. Carlisle is the main town for the county. If you go west for about 6 miles, you'll get to Newville.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) runs along the northern edge of Plainfield. However, the closest exit to the turnpike is about 8 miles east, past Carlisle.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that Plainfield covers an area of about 1.67 square kilometers (or 0.65 square miles). All of this area is land, with no water.
